“Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday that it would allow women to drive, ending a longstanding policy that has become a global symbol of the oppression of women in the ultraconservative kingdom.
The change, which will take effect in June 2018, was announced in a royal decree read live on state television and in a simultaneous media event in Washington. The decision highlights the damage that the ban on women driving has done to the kingdom’s international reputation and its hopes for a public relations benefit from the reform.”
What a reminder to appreciate some of the small things that we take for granted everyday. Yes we think this is crazy but they aren’t entitled to the things we are. Women across the globe have been fighting for the same rights as men and until this day we are still fighthing for our rights. This isn’t only something for Saudi Arabia women should be happy about, but women and men to be happy about.
Recently there has been protest and rallies due to the Trump administration who says they will deny access to sexual and reproductive health services, which can endanger millions of women across the world.
So the women of Saudi Arabia are making great strides in the right direction and the country its self can hopefully see the great change in not only the work environment, but the economy. The change should help families who were paying half the working women’s salary on transportation now families can keep money or but it else where that is needed and beneficial.
Although the change is looked at as business opportunity rather then a improvement on women’s rights as the reasoning behind the change. These women fought and fought hard and still have a long ways to go with gender segregation but until then
CHEERS TO THE SMALL STEPS, IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
A JOURNEY A THOUSAND MILES BEGIN WITH THAT ONE SMALL STEP.
